DEL MESA CARMEL, Monterey County — October 28, 2026. Del Mesa Carmel’s community association is highlighting its Firewise USA recognition for calendar year 2026 as part of its wildfire-preparedness information for residents.
Firewise USA is a program of the National Fire Protection Association recognizing qualifying community efforts to reduce wildfire risk. The association’s publicly posted certificate is dated December 17, 2025 and identifies its recognition as valid through the 2026 calendar year. This is not a claim that certification was newly awarded in October.
What recognition does and does not mean
Participation indicates the community has met the program’s annual recognition criteria, which include risk-assessment, mitigation and educational steps. It does not make homes fireproof, replace individual defensible-space obligations or guarantee insurance eligibility, renewal or discounts.
The association notes that some insurers may consider Firewise documentation for certain discounts, but any reduction depends on the insurer, California law and the individual policy. Residents should consult their own insurer and independent wildfire-safety guidance before changing coverage.
